Respect My Grind!
Being that this is my first official blog on my site; I would like to thank everyone for taking the time out of your busy schedules to read about what's going on in my life and in my career. Some of you know who I am, and some of you don't but rest to sure that after this reading this, you will know me for who I am. I am Q The Prophet, I'm a Hip-Hop artist born of a musical background, Underground Music Award Winner of 2007 who as shared the same stages with artists like Ice-T, Lady Luck, Jin, Joell Ortiz, Grafh, etc., I'm a Youth Minister of the Bible Faith Word Cathedral under the leadership of Bishop/Dr. Gregory A. Foster. Before I get into all the rest of the accomplishments that God has been me to achieve; I want to interest you all to who I really am...and that's a Christian.
I'm a born again believer of Jesus Christ. I don't practice religion, I don't attend Church as a traditional ritual, but I attend to build my relationship with God. I was a former drug dealer and gang banger. I've toted guns, smoked weed, got drunk and did numerous amount of evils before I turned my life over to the Lord. I was almost in a near death situation that brought me closer to God. I was in Junior High School when all these things were happening. As I leaving school one afternoon, I was hanging with my boys, while being confronted by some enemies from my block. Word got out in school that I was the neighborhood crack slinger (mind you I wasn't any big time kingpin, cause 2 for $5 was no way near a Scarface fantasy of moving kilos & grams overseas), and all eyes were on me. My boys at that time broke out and left me out there to get jumped by 7 guys. The funny thing about it is that I wasn't hurt. No scars, bruises, nor required stitches. In fact, they didn't even try to hurt me, but they only raided my pockets and grabbed me up, like felon resisting arrest. That was the moment that broke my pride and shook up my whole life once and for all. I've learned that when you think that you are tough, there is always somebody much tougher than you.
I was only 14 years old when I got out of the drug game, out of the gangs and gave my heart to the Lord Jesus. That was in 1994; and in that very same year, the Lord called me into ministry and I've been preaching since the age of 15 years old. Not only have I been preaching, but I flipped my style of rapping from hardcore to Godcore. My first experience with Gospel Rap was when my former Youth Pastor wrote & produced a song called Reach One - Teach One. My boy rapped on the actual song, but I performed in his place when we shot the music video. That was enough inspiration for me to step out and Rap. However, the Co Senior Pastor & Wife wasn't too fond of Rap in the Church, and neither were the members. But the Head Senior Pastor & Husband respected it, cause it was out of the box and it was destroying traditional barriers. Sadly to say to this day, they don't have any respect for it and neither have the Rappers Guild going on in Church. Whether it's still going since I left, I don't know and neither do care. I was tolerated for what I was doing, than I was appreciated for what I was doing by keeping the youth inspired to seek the Lord, keep them in Church and also keeping it Christ-like with the lyrics. This was the first Church that was affiliated with when I had gotten saved. Not the Church that I currently attend now.
But 11 1/2 years later, I've transcended from the Church walls, to even bringing the gospel in the secular Clubs. A year after I won the McDonald's Gospelfest in 2003, in the year 2004 was the year when my ministry shifted from the 4 walls of the Church to the Streets and in the Clubs. I started out rocking on stages in NYC in clubs like Speeed and Pyramid, doing Open Mic Showcases. My key scripture that I operate in is Matthew 6:33 (Q Standard Revised Version) "But seek God's Kingdom first and His right standards of living, and all these things shall be added unto you." Because of me always focusing on God's Kingdom, helping my Church & my leader; God gave me favor with the secular world. I've done things outside of the BOX as a Christian artist. I've appeared on DVDs like Whatz Really Hood DVD, on mixtapes like DJ Kay Slay's Konquer The World Vol. 2 and I've headlined events sharing same stages with the artists that I've mentioned in the previous paragraphs. Did I even mentioned that I also appeared on Video Music Box with Uncle Ralph McDaniels and was on Video City with Nina B? I do have an impressive resume, glory to God.
After reading all of this, you would think that I'm just some Christian dude that's trying to preach to the Choir, and beat Sinners over the head with the word. BUT I AM NOT!!! I came from the hood and God has called me to reach the hood. I just want to be respected for who I am as an artist, and as a Christian. I'm not in the comfort zone of mediocrity, and I neither want to be stuck in the box of the Gospel industry, neither the Underground industry. I'm not some dude who is trying to be hood or preachy. I'm seasoned, trained, and mentored by my pastor and the greats in Hip-Hop that have inspired me as a child growing up. I AM OUTSIDE OF THE BOX!!! And I'm boldly declaring in this blog to all these so called A&Rs, label execs, VPs, CEOs, DJs, Radio & Television Personalities, and whomever has a position in the Entertainment Industry to RESPECT MY GRIND! Too many Rappers are bowing down trying to be the next Jay-Z, the next 50 Cent, or the next Lil Wayne, and are caught up in images, rather than being themselves. And these big time people have no respect for the few & many that are coming different and outside of the norm of these Rappers. I'm positive, witty, raw, and Spiritual. I respect women, and I'm out to keep young men and women from being locked up in the Jail system. My ultimate objective is to lead all man kind to Salvation through Jesus Christ.
If you can respect a rapper blabbing about guns, sexing women, and whole bunch of nonsense; then why not show the same love, respect, and appreciation for somebody who is positive and doing something different? ENOUGH IS ENOUGH FOR THE POLITICS & BS OF THE INDUSTRY! The same way you had to grind and hustle to be where you at now, then you ought to show appreciation to those that are behind trail blazing their own paths for success.
I am not Kirk Franklin, I am not Kanye West, and I am certainly not your ordinary Rapper;
I am Q The Prophet, The Minister of Christ, The MC, Future Humanitarian in Hip-Hop! If I never ever score a platinum plaque, or win a Grammy, you ought to just simply RESPECT MY GRIND! And respect me as a man of God doing
